Roskosmos has completed the next stage of testing the new ID-200KR ion engine at the Keldysh Center.
The principle of operation of ion engines is the ionization of gas and its acceleration using an electric field. Greater efficiency compared to other types of engines is achieved due to relatively low fuel consumption and high speeds. In this case, a lot of energy is needed to disperse the ions. Today, such engines are used to control artificial satellites and small spacecraft.
